BALI BLUES
With the publication of Bali Blues, Makara Media has moved into the
field of book publishing. The second novel from Bali-based Canadian
author Jeremy Allan, Bali Blues is the first English-language publication
to depict events surrounding the 2002 Bali bombing from the Indonesian
perspective. The book follows the lives of several Kuta residents
– a hotel manager, a beach vendor, a pecalang (religious police),
a bar girl, an Australian expatriate – as they struggle to survive
in a once-prosperous community now devastated and thrust into the
international spotlight by a horrifying act of terrorism.
With the tragic second bombing of Bali in October 2005 we are reminded
that to understand the global scourge of terrorism and its effects
on real people is more important than ever before. Bali Blues examines
the planning and execution of that heinous act of terror giving a
chilling insight into the world of ruthless terrorists.
